ICE ICE BABY...

I joined the multitudes of Bank Holiday walkers for a stroll by the mere. No sign like last year of the Bittern or Lesser Spot but huge numbers of gulls and ducks on the iced up mere.
Terrance the Tawny Owl was in his favoured tree seemingly totally oblivious to the noise of the passing hordes.
Whist scanning the Kidbrook Spit I noticed this Coot doing acrobatics from the barbed wire fence. Poor thing had impaled itself and was desperately trying to get free. So I nipped behind the nearest tree and put my underpants on over my jeans...bird saved!

Other stuff on this first day of 2010...Raven, 4 Goldeneye, 15 Wigeon and a single Greylag.
