PATCH STROLL

Took a pleasent stroll round the patch with Debs and Pooch in tow this morning. Theres still ice on the mere and the woods (whats left of them) look very bare with hardly any ground cover. The feeders at Bittern hide were thus doing a roaring trade as per usual with a constant stream of Tits, Nuthatches and the pair of Bullfinch. Out on the mere a very good count of 59 Tufted mixed with one Pochard and 9 Goldeneye.
The Black Swans have started nesting again on Haydn's Pool island and fingers crossed this will be third time lucky. Its still a mystery how the three well grown young from last year disappeared in one night (Defra ??). We'll get them on our British Lists yet.
