DIPPER..DE..DO..DAH!

Dawn over Budworth Mere and I'm out pre work searching for Goosanders. In the race for the Patch Year List my main contender Greg has been having one of his all to frequent purple patches. With Waxwing and Goosander added recently he's getting awfully close...138 to my 140. So in a most desperate attempt to claw one back I'm out with the insomniacs scanning the mere for mergs serenaded by the chatter of several thousand Starlings in Coward Reedbed. Two Tawny Owls are calling from the Arboretum and a Water Rail also in the reedbed. Grey Heron, Mallard, Robin and even Great Crested Grebe are all added to the heard list but alas no Goosander (must learn their call, you never know) on the mere.
Having worked all weekend I managed to dip the Woodlarks at Brereton (twice), the Waxwings at Kelsall (thrice) and it was too dark to grip the Great Northern Diver at Congleton. So the only thing to bring cheer and solice to my week/weekend was the storming efforts of Stoke City and Sunderland. The Black Cats surely pulling off one of the most amazing away wins this century, it could easily have been 6 or 7 the way they were playing. Steve Bruce for England what?
