DUCK A L'ORANGE

An unscheduled mornings doggy walk (Debs has food poisoning so its insomniac time for me) had me down by the mere just after 8am. Whats that saying ''the early bird gets the worm'' or in this case 2 MANDARIN DUCK roosting on the overhanging branches just at the righthand end of Coward Reedbed. A nice bonus bird for the list as none were seen last year although it is increasing all over Cheshire maybe to reach plague proportions just like Ruddy Duck. Another addition to the list was 2 Eurasian Golden Plover with the vast Lapwing flock late on at Neumanns where there was a Raven and 3 Buteo over nearby Ashtons Swamp (now upgraded from delta cos its so wet and hence no Jack Snipe yet this year).

One of the Moss Side Oycs on the bare island at Birchwood Pool now well and truly a gull free zone. Even the good old reliable Tawny Owl seems to have done one, whats going on down there? No additions to the list today.

Moss Side YL - 92

Tawny probably gone due to disturbance (OK it could be nesting. Someone put exact directions up on Birdforum. I mailed admin asking them to take it down due to possible disturbance and they refused. Tossers.
