Another Sunday morning goes by and the Patch stalemate continues. Same old same old for a while now. The goose flock is building up nicely now on the late night roost on Neumann's with 400+ geese (Canadas and Greylags) but most have done one early doors to feed on the fields above Budworth Mere. Hopefully Barnie will appear soon as I still need him for the year list.
The pool at Haydn's is probably 75% waterless but the Green Sandpipers love it with 5 still there this morning plus 2 Common Snipe and 5 Black-tailed Godwits. From the hide the male Peregrine was visible atop his usual perch on the distant Winnington Works towers.
A Kingfisher was an unusual sight zooming up Witton Brook to who knows were?
The morning saved when I decided to once again look/listen for the Willow Tit thats most often seen these days near the pipe bridge valley. I'd just reached the horse paddock and lent on the gate as one does and ''...taah taah taah...'' (as per Collins) the unmistakable call of a Willow Tit, very much like Siberian Tit according to Collins. I won't be claiming the latter but the Willowy was a nice boost to the list having missed them all year and also Greg's adult Yellow-legged Gull seen mid week ( I was far too late for work to make a detour...rats!!). With the Barn Owl I caught up with on Dairy House Meadows last Sunday the Patch Year List now stands at 127, thats 94.8% of total....wonder what The Moore Patchers on?

Well he's on 126 now with Friday's Turnstone (!) at Halfway House :) which makes 17 waders species so far this year and the magical 20 look feasible at some point. That coupled with my gut taunting me with Phalarope makes for an interesting few months methinks!
Sure does my friend. MCP now usually goes to sleep till January so I've got to pull the preverbial finger out me thinks!
Still need Bittern and fingers crossed for a YL Gull (dipped out on the only one so far), 130 looks miles away...
